Married and Thinking about Self-Employment?

Patty Newbold

If you’ve ever thought about starting your own business, you might wonder what kind of stress it may put on your marriage and family. I’ve run my own business for more than a decade, so I know while there are challenges, balance can be found.

Patty Newbold, whom I introduced you to in this post “What if today were your last day with your spouse?”, is now beginning an online self-study course designed to help married individuals who want to become self-employed. She’s allowing me to hold a drawing for one free attendee. Win a free class on how to enjoy being married while taking the self-employment plunge. If you’re interested in being entered into a drawing for Marriage Gems readers, leave a comment here. I’ll have the drawing on or shortly after August 1st. Visit Enjoy Being Married for information about the class or to register.

Thanks to Patty for making this available to our readers.

  1. It sounds interesting. I left my full time job back in December to dedicate my full time to my forum and website. Am I still eligible since I am not trying to decide?
For years I worked while writing on the side. It was several years ago now that I learned I was neglecting Sweetheart. Now I work from home and he has more respect for my writing than before and I make time for him. But I don’t want to fall into old patterns.

  2. I just quit my job the end of June to take over a children’s consignment shop and stay home with my daughter. It is a lot more involved than I ever thought it was going to be.

  3. I would like to enter to win as well. Fantastic site Lori 🙂

  4. This sounds great. We’ve had a business for over 6 years now.

  5. This sounds great. My husband would like to start his own business and leave his full time job eventually but with the economy being what it is I’m far from 100% convinced. Maybe we could both do this together and decide if it’s right for us.

    • Melissa, you were the winner in the drawing! Congratulations!! I’ll send you an email to confirm. Best,

  6. I wish we could give every one of these great commenters a free pass, Lori. Next best thing: I will extend the July $50 discount through the end of August 7th (EDT), in case anyone wishes to purchase the course after you choose the winner. The address is

  7. Patty, that’s so nice of you. Thanks! The winner will be chosen today so I’ll update soon. The rest of you are welcome to use this discount all week.

  8. Congratulations to Melissa! I look forward to getting you and your husband set up with your free pass to all 19 lessons in this course. Lori, please pass along my email address to Melissa, and thank you for sharing this with your readers.

  9. My hubby & I are exploring business opportunities that allow us more time together and more control of our schedules. This would be ideal because we’re hoping for a large family! We’d love to attend Patty’s workshop. Please throw our names in the hat for your drawing. Thank you!
