New Song: Marriage Means Sailing in the Storms

Here’s a groovy, sweet new song about celebrating 15 years of marriage, something my dear hubby and I are preparing to do this fall. It’s called Dancing in the Minefield by Andrew Peterson from the album Counting Stars (out next week). I identify with so many of the lyrics:

We said our vows and took the leap now 15 years ago.
To lose your life for another I’ve heard is a good place to begin…and I believe it’s an easy price for the life that we have found.
We went dancing in the minefields; we went sailing in the storms.
It was harder than we ever dreamed, but I believe that’s what the promise is for.

Listen to the song on YouTube.

Do you relate to the poetry of the song? Is marriage harder than you ever dreamed but an easy price for the life you have found? Or do you disagree and think it’s smooth sailing? (If the latter, please tell us if you’re a newlywed!)

  3. This is an awesome song! I would love to read the whole lyrics as on Monday my husband and I are celebrating 30 years of marriage. I never thought of it as “Dancing in a Minefield” but at times it was just that. I know the timing of me finding Life Gems was perfect today. the Lord is there, even in a minefield. I’ll be posting this video on FB on Monday in honor of 30 years with the same man, through the storms of life, ever faithful and true. Many blessings,

  4. Thanks for sharing this fantastic song. It’s a stunning lyrical and musical creation – exactly the kind of song I aspire to as a songwriter. So full of truth and hope.

I suppose I identify some with the “harder than we ever dreamed,” but I also have learned that smooth sailing comes with laying our lives down for one another.

  5. I think “Dancing in a Minefield” is so appropriate. It’s beautiful, in a way really.

  7. I am so excited I got to hear this song for the first time today. I loved it!!
My fiance and I will be married in August and this will be both of our 4th marriages. Everyone judges someone who has been married 4 times but the song is so apropo to say that the struggle is worth it, especially if at the age of 44, you finally find your soul mate. I am sending the lyrics to my man and I know he will feel the same way I do. Thank you to Andrew Peterson for his annointing over this song. Very powerful with a fantastic message to staying strong through all the trials and tribulations that go along with a relationship and how you can make it if your hope and trust is in God and you make Him the center of your relationship.
